Mardi gras is a celebration where people go to prarades, dress up, eat, party and have a good time. During parades spectators would line up on either side of the street as floats (that many people spent time decorating) came rolling down the street. On those float would be people who dressedup in flashy costumes at who throw beads and other paraphernalia related to that particular floats parade to the spectators. It is also around this time that people who have been working on the costumes for mardi gras all year get to break it out for the world to see. Groups like the mardi gras indians works on different costumes every mardi gras and make a show out of who has the best costumes, while gangs like the baby dolls and the bone gang are hidden in one particular area of the city. It is because of these things Mardi gras in the city of New Orleans has become so popular, drawing in more and more people into the festivities, who just adds to the fun.
