First Grace United Methodist Church
A United Congregation
First Grace United Methodist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana exemplifies the blending of different cultures, and ethnicities in a spiritual environment. The congregation is bound together by the power of their religious beliefs, as well as through worship.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of First Grace United Methodist Church's background is how two churches joined together after Hurricane Katrina. It's baffling that during a time of racial tension, and divide among the city also created a racially diverse, harmonious congregation.
I am inspired by First Grace, just as the speaker during our visitation, Walter Kimbrough, was. Walter Kimbrough, president of Dillard University, called First Grace "peculiar" for being so diverse racially, and accepting. People of different ethnicities sit side by side worshiping and sharing in their religious experience. The choir is also made up of several races, and is completely united through music and worship.
First Grace is a welcoming environment for people from all walks of life, and truly exemplifies what unity is in a religious setting.
