Ray Nagin

While many people know about Hurricane Katrina and its devastating affects on New Orleans, few people outside of New Orleans know who the mayor of New Orleans was at the time of the hurricane.  Fewer yet know what he allegedly did to New Orleans after the hurricane.  The hurricane killed many civilians and brave public safety workers, while also destroying many homes and businesses and displacing many families.  With all of this loss and devastation, it has been interesting to hear of Ray Nagin, the former Mayor of New Orleans.  I had heard his name before from my family but I did not really understand who exactly he was.  Now, I have become more curious about what he has been up to.  Ray Nagin was brought into jail on January 18, 2013 after a 21-count indictment.  He was accused of accepting monetary bribes, materials for his business and trips for vacation.  This is all so that companies could advertise themselves by "helping" New Orleans through this difficult time.  If these accusations are true, I find it horrifying that one could stray from actually trying to repair the city just for their own selfish interests.  I truly hope this is not the case, but this is what former Mayor Ray Nagin has been up to these past few months.
