Seafood

New Orleans, considered by many to be if not, the most diverse city in the United States, some may New York City but once you've come down to New Orleans and experienced the culture, you may say otherwise. New Orleans was founded on May 7, 1718, by the French Mississippi Company, under the direction of Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville. It was named for Philippe d'Orléans, Duke of Orléans, who was Regent of France at the time. His title came from the French city of Orléans. It was hard trying to build on land that was mostly swamps and marshes. Through hard work and group efforts they were able to drag out the swamps and marshes and build land. New Orleans became a prosperous and pivotal port city. Because of the number of immigrants coming in, population grew and so did the diversity. New Orleans became one of the largest cities until the 20th century when big cities like Houston, Dallas, and Miami came into play. Unlike many other parts of the United States, New Orleans saw more civil equality than many states but there was still a large income gap. With people in search for jobs, more and more small businesses opened up. The majority were seafood restaurants, due to the fact that New Orleans was a port city which could get fresh seafood and the fact that with little to no formal education, people had to rely on what they knew best and for many that was cooking.
