Papa Legba

On our field trip to the French Quarter, we visited Voodoo Authentica, where our guide Tobi, told us about the different voodoo altars within the store. It was during his talk that he gave a brief introduction into who was Legba and his purpose in the voodoo religion. Based off of what Tobi said and what we learned in class Legba was the Loa of the crossroads, who opens the doors to the spirit world and allow humans to interact with other Loa. He also is the Loa that opens the door to life itself, which means he allows people to be born. Legba is also known as a storyteller and a remover of obstacles. Legba is an important and powerful figure who is invoked at the beginning and ending of any voodoo ritual.
