St. Patricks Day in New Orleans

With the rich history and culture that runs through the streets of New Orleans it isn't surprising that the city has a rich Irish history as well. As we all know festivities in New Orleans don't simply last one day, they last for days if not weeks at a time. There are six parades for St. Patrick's day, compared to the one parade they have in New York City. Not to mention there is a block party in the Irish Channel of the city.

During one of the parades they not only throw beads and other throws, but they throw cabbages, potatoes, carrots, onions, and other Irish customary things. So essentially by the time you get home you should have enough ingredients to make a traditional Irish stew.

Men and women in walking groups from various clubs in the city dress in costumes of green, pass out flowers, beads, and kisses. If you get beads with green plastic shamrocks, wear them for the rest of the day because they'll bring you good luck!
