Creole Women

I found it interesting that the Creole Women of New Orleans lived similar lives to those of the women of plantations throughout the south. You would think because of the time period and the area given that things would be a lot different, but they weren't.

A lot of the Creole women did the same activities that their slaves would do. They had to manage a large household, and supervise slaves. On top of that, they lived a lavish lifestyle so they had to manage a heavy schedule along with going to social events.

Although that they were a lot alike they were a lot different as well. They were chaperoned whenever they went out and and couldn't make any business deals with out the assistance of a man present. The Creole women barely walked the streets of New Orleans during the 1800's. The roads were filled with mud and sewage which made it nearly impossible for them to walk comfortably in a full length dress.

The Creole lifestyle is such a different scene than anywhere else in the world at this time. I believe that's what makes New Orleans so different and one of the most unique cities in the world.
