Dominican Nuns from Cabra, Ireland

Dominican Nuns from Cabra, Ireland started St. John the Baptist School. The Sisters came to the city and started out opening up a girls academy. Not to long after the sisters beg an to accept young boys who could not be educated with the older christian boys. when yellow fever broke out the local Christian brothers left and the Sisters started to teach them at St. John the Baptist School. The school was destroyed in 1956. The Sisters and their traditions live on at St. Mary Dominican High School.
